Much like leaves falling softly to the earth in autumn, the days of our lives slip past like a mere moment in time. The visual arts continue to remain a fixated interest to me. To me, photography is an ethereal experience. I become intense when I get behind the lens and capture the essence of a moment. It strikes me that I am literally capturing a piece of reality at that moment. It is near shocking when we stop and truly realize our own existence in space and time.
When photographing people, the significance of the moment cannot be underestimated. Gesture, pose, and facial expression all reveal the inner essence of the person being photographed. Understanding this can be near startling when reviewing the images. The photographs seem to hold a great deal of significance shortly after being taken and viewed; however, with the swift passing of time, they become a priceless, historical record of who we were, what we were, and where we were. Captured images become priceless as the years pass by. They facilitate our memory and and have the ability to stir our deepest emotions.
